5 Simple Things That Make AI More Likely to Recommend Your Business

Ok, I might be giving away some of my secrets on this one, but these principals are very universal and can be immensely helpful. The key is to be real…be yourself. Getting recommended by AI tools like ChatGPT and Google's AI can sound technical and intimidating. It isn't, really. At its heart, it comes down to one idea: make your business easy for AI to understand, trust, and describe. Here are five plain-English things that move the needle — none of which require you to be a tech person.

1. Say clearly what you do, who you serve, and where.

AI recommends businesses it can confidently describe. If a stranger landed on your homepage, could they tell in five seconds exactly what you offer and who it's for? If not, AI can't either. Lead with plain, specific language — "waterproof upland hunting pants made in the USA," not "premium performance outerwear solutions."

2. Answer the real questions people ask.

AI pulls from content that directly answers buyer questions. A simple FAQ page — "How much does it cost?", "How long does it take?", "Who is this for?" — gives AI clean, quotable answers about you. Write the way your customers actually ask, and answer honestly and directly.

3. Keep your business information identical everywhere.

Your name, location, and contact details should match exactly across your website, Google Business Profile, and every directory you're listed on. Mismatched information makes AI unsure you're even one single business — and uncertainty makes it leave you out. Consistency is one of the easiest wins available.

4. Collect and keep earning reviews.

Reviews are one of the strongest trust signals there is, for both humans and AI. A steady stream of genuine, recent reviews tells the AI that real people vouch for you. Make asking for a review a normal part of finishing a job or a sale.

5. Be a real, findable entity — not a ghost.

AI trusts businesses that show up as legitimate: a clear "about" page with a real person behind it, consistent branding, and a presence beyond just your own website. The more the web confirms you exist and do what you say, the more comfortable AI is recommending you.

Notice what's not on this list: tricks, hacks, or gaming the system. That's on purpose. AI is specifically built to see through manipulation, and the businesses that win are simply the ones that are clear, consistent, and genuinely trustworthy. This is refreshingly fair — you don't need the biggest budget, you need the clearest presence.

It's also worth knowing this is an ongoing effort, not a one-time fix. AI tools change constantly, and what earns a recommendation shifts over time. But the foundations above rarely go out of style, because they're really just good business communication.

If you'd like to know which of these five you're already doing well — and which are quietly costing you recommendations — run our free AI Visibility Check. It scores exactly these areas in a few minutes and shows you where to start.

Note: The five factors above reflect widely reported best practices for AI/generative search visibility and align with how AI answer engines evaluate and cite businesses.
